New Silk Road Network’s Member S&D Logistics recently completed a project of transporting large pipes from Poti, in Georgia, to Atyrau, in KazakhstanThe operation took two months due to the interim New Year’s period and involved the shipment of fairly lightweight fiberglass-gauge pipes that originated in Egypt. In total, 122 containers were handled, including 102 standard 40-foot units and 10 flat racks (40-foot FR).
One of the main operational challenges was handling 80 containers simultaneously, including sorting and reloading them for onward delivery. Customs procedures were also challenging since the shipment required extensive documentation, adding complexity to the route. Despite the hurdles, S&D Logistics reports smooth project execution, thanks to its long-standing experience and strong project capabilities. S&D Logistics’ core strengths reside in transporting between Asia and Europe, with the Caucasus region as its central expertise.
