S&D Logistics LTD, a member of the New Silk Road Network representing Georgia, has been growing its out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo transport services. Their journey into the out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo sector began in late 2020, a period marked by the disruptions and new opportunities of the COVID-19 pandemic, which unexpectedly introduced them to a long-term customer whose unique transportation need would pave the way for S&D Logistics’ growth in specialized logistics.

The initial inquiry came from a UK client interested in exploring new routes for OOG cargo through the mountainous Caucasus region, specifically seeking details about paths, passes, and terms for transport via Georgia’s strategic port of Poti. Although the first email raised some eyebrows with a series of unusual questions, the ensuing correspondence lasted over a year and a half and eventually led to a confirmed order.
The first confirmed OOG project involved transporting cargo from Poti, Georgia, to Tengiz, Kazakhstan. S&D Logistics successfully completed the shipment by collaborating with subcontractors and was able to exceed client expectations. This initial success was quickly followed by a second inquiry, prompting the company to expand its fleet and invest in new low-bed trailers specifically designed for OOG cargo.

Since then, S&D Logistics has consistently handled OOG shipments for this valued partner, moving specialized cargo such as air simulators for Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku and repeated orders to the airport in Astana, Kazakhstan. Notable completed projects also include logistics for Silkway Airlines, Azerbaijan Airlines, and delivering Schlumberger machinery to Tengiz.

All OOG cargoes are handled and processed at the port of Poti, with subsequent transport to destinations in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan using the company’s own equipment. With several high-profile shipments already accomplished and more orders on the horizon, S&D Logistics has firmly established itself as a reliable provider in the specialized OOG cargo sector. The New Silk Road Network extends its best wishes to S&D Logistics for continued success in the years ahead.
